Pingu Guppy

Overview: If you have a nano or planted aquarium, Pingu Guppy could be the best choice. Pingu Guppy is a beautiful small guppy fish that looks unique with its striking colours. The males and females are distinguishable in colours wherein the head and pelvic area are bright blue among males and the rest of the body is white or pink. The tail is bright yellow making them the centre of attention in the tank. The scientific name of Pingu Guppy is Poecilia reticulate var. “Pingu”. They grow to a size not more than 2 to 2.5 inches. They are active swimmers that love to swim and jump all around the tank. 

Habit and Distribution: Although Pingu Guppy is a tank bred variety of guppy, their original home is believed to be northern South America. Selective breeding developed this beautiful, vibrant and bright variant of guppy that can intensify the look and aesthetic of any aquarium. You can keep them in a group of 4 to 6 for the best results. The minimum tank size is 10 gallons, as guppies themselves are small in size. It is a peaceful fish that is hardy and easily adaptable to wider water parameters. In tanks, you can find Pingu guppies swimming mostly at the upper layers. However, their jumping habit sometimes gets fatal for them. So, don’t forget to cover the tank with a lid. 

Temperature: The ideal temperature range for the Pingu Guppies is from 18 to 28 degrees Celsius. Keeping the proper temperature range will ensure the health, life and happiness of the fish. 

Water conditions: pH from 5.5 to 8.0 and hardness 10 to 30 KH are the best for the survival of Pingu Guppy. You can keep the tank size as small as 10 gallons. They do well in larger tank sizes as well. Harder water rather than softer, and slightly to moderately alkaline water conditions are the best for this amazing fish. 

Breeding: Guppies are relatively easy to breed than most of the fish varieties. A separate tank for breeding and a breeding box to protect the fry from adults are the two important accessories that you would require. You can distinguish the males and females from the colours and size. Females are bigger in size and have round bodies than males. 

Feeding: Guppies are omnivorous. You can provide them with either algae-based food or meaty food. They are not a picky eater. Colourful and a variety of food will provide enough nutrition to them. From high-quality flake food to pellets and frozen food, everything is suitable for the Pingu guppies. 

Lifespan: The typical lifespan of a healthy Pingu guppy is 3 to 5 years. Make sure you feed them well and keep them under proper water conditions. It will ensure them a healthy and happy life.
