Overview: Coming from the Xiphophorus genus, Mango Platy is a beautiful species belonging to the Poeciliidae family. They are a great community fish who like to dwell in the tanks with other fish. They are popular freshwater tropical fish. Easy to maintain, these are considered a good option for beginners. Platies come in different colors and shades and bring liveliness to the tank. Mango Platy, as the name suggests mango shaped and brightly colored. They look very pretty and are perfect for introducing in the tank.

Distribution and Habitat: Out of so many freshwater fish, the name of Platy is pretty common among the aquarists. They have a swordlike appearance at the bottom of their tails, typical to the genus Xiphophorus. Platies are native to southern Mexico and the east coastal region of Central America. Today, due to their exoticness and ease of maintenance, they are found everywhere and preferred as an aquarium fish. Also, they are not aggressive in behavior; in fact, very peaceful and love to mingle with other fish in the tank.

Temperature: The ideal temperature for Mango Platy ranges from 65°F - 77°F (18°C - 25°C). It is very important to maintain the right temperature and avoid fluctuation of temperature that may stress the fish. 

Water Condition: The perfect pH for Mango Platy ranges from 7 to 8. Likewise, the hardiness should be between 10° to 25° dH. When the water conditions are right, the Platy thrive and live happily. They are perfect tropical fish for the beginners. Some fish that can live well with Platy in such water conditions are mollies, swordtails, tetras, etc. with the right male and female ratio.

Breeding: Mango Platy are livebearers. The babies start swimming immediately after birth. If the tank has one male and one female, they will breed without any hassle. Separate the adults form the young ones, or else they may feed over them. Males are a little aggressive than females, therefore try to have two females over one male to avoid the male from harassing the single female in the tank.

Feeding: Platy can eat a variety of food. You can feed flakes, frozen food, live, and dried feeds and keep on trying other different types of feed as well. With a good diet, health, as well as coloration, remains in good condition.

Life Span: Generally, mango platy live for 2 to 3 years that largely depend upon their feeding habit, and water parameters.
